The rise of small businesses through social media

Amid Covid, 2020 was also the year of small business growth. Despite a dwindling economy, many have decided to start a small business or exponentially grow within existing business ideas. Lockdown proved to be extremely difficult, but studies have also shown that a lot of people had time to unlock their creative side and in return create an additional revenue stream.

Social media has been of great assistance in helping these businesses become established and grow within different communities. Social media platforms have given business owners the opportunity to build customer loyalty and create a unique customer experience that they could not have done before, in a different climate, and help stay connected with their customer base instead of isolating the business.

So, what do these social media platforms bring to the table and how can clients make use of them?

Instagram Small business Stickers

Instagram launched Small Business Stickers to help businesses during the hardships of Covid-19. Posting daily story updates and action buttons will allow consumers to keep up to date with businesses and allows for more traction. Small business action buttons also allow consumers to make purchases if the business is an online store.

Facebook MarketPlace

Facebook has implemented an online Ecommerce ecosystem (Facebook marketplace), that allow businesses to set up an online storefront. This marketplace also offers business tools such as, email lists and audience segmentation tools.

TikTok

Surprisingly, TikTok has become one of the fastest growing social media platforms. Businesses have started using short video content to spread brand awareness. And to make things more official, during the peak of the pandemic, TikTok launched their ‘TikTok For Business’ initiative in 2020. Businesses can know post ads, takeovers, in-feed video content, hashtag challenges and effects specific to brand awareness.
